## Overview

PowerPoint has been the default presentation tool for decades, which means most people learned it by imitation and never saw what it can actually do. This course works through the essentials properly: creating layouts, adding text, images, shapes, and SmartArt, and organizing information with tables and charts so complex material reads clearly.

The later material covers the tools that separate a thrown-together deck from a designed one. You will build reusable themes and templates with consistent fonts and colors, use animation and video where they help rather than distract, and manage long presentations with sections, hidden slides, and custom shows. Collaboration through comments and feedback is covered, as is customizing and animating charts imported from Excel.

We’ll help you get set up with a free trial of paid software prior to the class. Most of our coding classes utilize freely-available open-source software. For most of our design and motion graphics courses, we will help you get set up with a free trial of Adobe Creative Cloud. If you attend the course in-person, we will have a computer already set up for you with all of the required software for no additional cost.
