Microsoft Excel Free Tips & Tutorials

Use conditional formatting to format cells based on the cell’s value.

To Add Conditional Formatting:

  1. Select a range of cells to which you want to apply conditional formatting.
  2. HOME >> Styles group >> Conditional Formatting
  3. Type a value and format then click OK

Highlight Cell Rules:

Use this to highlight all cells greater than a certain value, less than a certain value, all values that contain a certain element, etc.

HOME >> Styles group >> Conditional Formatting >> Highlight Cell Rules >> Greater Than

Top/Bottom Rules:

Use this to highlight the top 10 cells, cells in the top 10 percent, cells above average, etc.

HOME >> Styles group >> Conditional Formatting >> Top/Bottom Rules >> Top 10 items

Data Bars:

Use this to insert a horizontal bar (similar to a Bar chart) in each cell to visually represent the value of that cell, relative to all the other cells

HOME >> Styles group >> Conditional Formatting >> Data Bars
